Cedar benches inside the sauna in low light

How a mobile sauna rental works

Never rented a sauna before? Most people haven't. Here's exactly what happens, from booking to pickup.

Before we arrive

  • Space: a flat spot about the size of a parking space, with about 10 feet of clearance for the trailer to get in. A driveway, a lawn or a patio all work.
  • No electricity needed. The sauna burns wood.
  • A garden hose for the rinse shower and to fill the plunge tub.
  • Sign the rental agreement online when you book.
  • Not sure your yard works? Text a photo of the spot to (347) 470-0102 and we'll tell you.

Delivery and the demo

Abraham arrives, parks the sauna on a level spot and sets the trailer legs so it doesn't move. Then about ten minutes of how-to. He shows you how to light the stove, add wood, open the vents, make steam and close up at night. Ask anything.

Using it

  • Light the stove with paper and small sticks first, then bigger wood. Close the door and walk away. In 45 to 60 minutes it's hot. Add wood every 15 to 20 minutes while you use it.
  • Open the vents. Fresh air in the sauna matters.
  • Sit in for 5 to 15 minutes, then step out and cool off: the plunge, the hose, or just the cold air. Rest at least 20 minutes between sessions.
  • Make steam by pouring a little water on the rocks with the ladle. A little at a time: steam can scald.
  • The whisk (vihta) is the old Finnish and Russian banya way to move the heat over your skin. Optional, and fun.

Pickup

We come back at the end of your rental and take everything. Leave it the way you found it, with the trash out, and your $500 damage deposit comes back.

Safety

From our safety guide, which you sign before your rental.

Don't use the sauna if you:

  • have been drinking or using drugs, or are taking medication
  • have a heart condition or high blood pressure, or another condition your doctor has warned you about heat with (the full guide lists them)
  • are pregnant or nursing
  • have a stomach bug
  • have artificial joints, metal pins or silicone implants

Always:

  • Leave right away if you feel unwell, dizzy or faint.
  • Supervise children at all times, and keep them to short sessions, up to 5 minutes.
  • Take off jewelry. Metal gets very hot.
  • Don't touch the stove, the pipe or the hot rocks without a glove.
  • Wear slippers and mind your head going in and out.
